New Delhi: The power ministry has finalised the national electricity data sharing framework and will launch it this month, Secretary Pankaj Agarwal said on Wednesday. A national governance committee is being planned for the contours of the framework, including representatives from the industry, he said.

The idea is to give clarity and a starting point to the utilities about data sharing and the kind of data they can share, including what is the better data structure, Agarwal said at Central Electricity Authority's event on artificial intelligence in the power sector.

For the industry, especially startups, to use large volumes of data sets, they must be consistent, he added. "It has to be similar in the structure so that it can be gainfully leveraged by them for giving various decision options," he said.

The ministry had rolled out the draft National Electricity Data Sharing Framework in July for stakeholders' comments.

The aim is to create a common architecture for voluntarily sharing electricity sector data, proposing standardised datasets, privacy safeguards and consent-based access to support planning, grid operations, regulation, and research.

The framework also suggests a national electricity data governance committee, which will be led by the Central Electricity Authority Chairperson, and will have representatives from the public and private sector.
