National Electric Mobility Mission likely to launched by July

NEW DELHI: Minister of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Praful Patel today said the National Electric Mobility Mission Plan 2020, which is aimed at promoting electric and hybrid vehicles, is likely to be launched by July, 2012.

"The National Electric Mobility Mission plan to 2020 is now expected to be launched by July 2012," he said.

The minister told members of the Parliamentary Consultative Committee of the Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises that the National Mission for Electric Mobility was launched to promote electric mobility and manufacturing of electric vehicles in India.

Besides, the members were informed about setting up of the National Council for Electric Mobility (NCEM) and National Board for Electrical Mobility (NBEM), under the Chairmanship of the Minister.

A study was also conducted on behalf of the Ministry to provide a fact-based policy framework to NBEM and NCEM towards formulating the National Electric Mobility Mission Plan 2020.

At present, India's production of hybrid/electric vehicles is almost negligible.
