NALCO commissions second wind power unit in Jaisalmer

NALCO commissioned its second wind power plant at Ludarva in Jaisalmer district of Rajasthan last week, with a capacity of 47.6 MW.

KOLKATA: National Aluminium Company Limited ( NALCO) commissioned its second wind power plant at Ludarva in Jaisalmer district of Rajasthan last week, with a capacity of 47.6 MW. The move is part of its foray into other metals and the energy sector. This Rs.283-crore project was executed through Gamesa Wind Turbines Private Ltd. and it involved erection of 56 wind turbines, each of 850 KW rating.

In the first phase of commissioning, 36 turbines were erected. The remaining 20 turbines were successfully commissioned last week. In a statement, Nalco said it the company's second green initiative towards promoting sustainable development by harnessing the unconventional and renewable energy sources, which would credit the company with incentives from the government.

Earlier, the company commissioned its first wind power plant of 50.4 MW capacity at a cost of Rs 274 crore at Gandikota in Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh, in December, 2012. The company is now planning to set up a third wind power plant in its own mined out area of Panchpatmali bauxite deposit in Odisha'a Koraput.
