NALCO commissions 9th Unit of Captive Power Plant
The public sector aluminium major National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) achieved yet another milestone with successful commissioning of its 9th Unit of 120 MW capacity of its Captive Power Plant located at Angul.
With this, the total capacity of its 960 MW Captive Power Plant has gone up to 1080 MW. When the 10th unit of 120 MW capacity will be commissioned under the 2nd phase expansion, the total capacity of Captive Power Plant will further go up to 1200 MW. This Power Plant acts as lifeline for Company���s Aluminium Smelter Plant, (located close by) and its capacity is also being increased from 345,000 tonnes to 460,000 tonnes.
The Synchronization of 9th Unit of 120 MW of Captive Power Plant marks a significant achievement in commissioning activities of NALCO���s 2nd phase expansion projects, a Nalco spokesman said. Commissioning activities of other units like Bauxite Mines, Alumina Refinery and Aluminium Smelter plant are also going on simultaneously.
After commissioning the 2nd phase expansion programme, the Company has plans to start the 3rd phase expansion at an investment of Rs 6000 crore, which will increase the Company���s aluminium capacity to 5.80 lakh tonne and power generation to 1400 MW per annum.
