MP, Guj ultra mega power projects on schedule

The Union Power Ministry on Thursday said two ultra-mega power projects in the country are on schedule and successful bidders for the same are likely to be determined by December.

MUMBAI: The Union Power Ministry on Thursday said two ultra-mega power projects in the country are on schedule and successful bidders for the same are likely to be determined by December.

"Two ultra-mega power projects, one each in Sasan, Madhya Pradesh and Mundhra, Gujarat, are on schedule. Price bids are out and pre-qualified bidders are expected to quote by November," Ajay Shankar, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Power, told reporters on the sidelines of an international conference on power being held here.

By December successful bidders should be determined, he said adding preparatory work for both these projects has been initiated and developmental work was proceeding smoothly.

Shankar said by 2012 the country should eliminate power shortages, adding that during the Tenth Plan, work on generating 40,000 MW of power was going on, entailing an investment of Rs 1,40,000 crore.
