Mamata Banerjee to flag off Trans Damodar Coal Mining Project

This is the first project under public private partnership (PPP) model involving the government of West Bengal for commercial mining of coal.

KOLKATA: West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee is set to flag off production at the Trans Damodar Coal Mining Project on Friday at Bajora in the state's Bankura district. This is the first project under public private partnership (PPP) model involving the government of West Bengal for commercial mining of coal.

Trans Damodar Coal Block is spread over an area of about 8 square km, out of which 694 acres will be mined through open cast method. the area is situated in south eastern part of Raniganj coalfield. The state government is expected to earn revenue of Rs 56 crore annually in the form of cess and royalty from the production of coal from the opencast portion of Trans Damodar Sector Coal Block.

The latter is one of the six coal blocks allocated by the union coal ministry to the West Bengal Mineral Development and Trading Corporation Ltd, a state government undertaking established in the year 1973, under the state dispensation route.
