To align with global commitments, including those made at COP28 and the G20's energy efficiency goals, India had introduced the State Energy Efficiency Action Plan. The plan emphasises the implementation of localised energy efficiency measures and highlights the need for close coordination between the Centre and the states.
Five states demonstrated what the report described as "remarkable" progress, improving their scores by more than 10 points. These include Odisha, Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan.
As in previous years, states and union territories were classified into four groups based on their total final energy consumption. Maharashtra topped Group 1, Andhra Pradesh led Group 2, Assam ranked highest in Group 3, while Tripura took the lead in Group 4.
