L&T wins ₹5,000-10,000 cr 'major' order to build 3 battery storage projects in Middle East

Mumbai: Larsen & Toubro on Tuesday said its renewables business has won a major order to develop three battery energy storage system projects in the Middle East, with the projects collectively offering 6 gigawatt-hours of storage capacity.

The order, classified as 'major' under L&T's internal order classification, involves developing three four-hour BESS projects for a Middle Eastern client. The scope also includes grid interconnections, pooling substations and underground cables.

Under L&T's order classification, projects valued between ₹5,000 crore and ₹10,000 crore are categorised as major. The company did not disclose the value of the latest order.

The projects are aimed at strengthening grid stability and facilitating greater integration of renewable energy into the region's power networks. The battery systems will store surplus clean power generated during off-peak periods and dispatch it during peak demand.

L&T said the BESS installations will use liquid-cooling technology, designed to enable higher power density while improving safety and extending the operational life of the systems.

L&T's scrip ended at ₹4,116, up 0.76% on the BSE on Tuesday.
