L&T declined to comment.
L&T’s construction arm is the best bidder for the heavy civil infrastructure job to build the main plant for the Kudankulam nuclear power plant’s units 5 and 6, the people said. These units will be built adjacent to units 3 and 4, where L&T is already involved in execution.
The Kudankulam nuclear power plant has two operational units and is in the process of building four more, each with a capacity 1,000 MWe. The order for the units 5 and 6 are scheduled to be completed in 64 months.
L&T is slated to bag the Chennai Metro Phase II order, which would entail construction of the first 7.95 km elevated section of Line-4 (Light House – Poonamallee) and the 47 km Line-5 (Madhavaram – Sholinganallur). This line covers nine stations from Power House to Porur Junction. Chennai Metro had invited bids in July and estimated the project cost at 800 crore. L&T beat two other bidders with a winning bid of 1,035 crore, industry insiders said.
