KPCL, L&T sign JV for 1,600 mw power plant in Chhattisgarh

State-owned power generating company Karnataka Power Corporation Limited and L&T on Wednesday signed a Joint Venture agreement for the 1,600 MW power project at Godhna in Chhattisgarh.

BANGALORE: State-owned power generating company Karnataka Power Corporation Limited ( KPCL) and L&T on Wednesday signed a Joint Venture agreement for the 1,600 MW (2 X 800 MW) coal-based super critical thermal power project at Godhna in Chhattisgarh.

"Most of the clearances have been obtained and land acquisition (in Chhattisgarh) is in progress", Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa said at the signing ceremony, attended among others by L&T chairman and managing director AM Naik.

KPCL officials said the Chhattisgarh Government has allotted 1,260 acres to KPCL for the project.

The Chief Minister said the government of Karnataka is not blessed with coal or gas or oil and so the Government took initiatives to approach the coal-rich Chhattisgarh to put up a big thermal plant there.

Naik said L&T is in discussions with the Karnataka government to participate in various infrastructure projects in the State.
