Under the agreement, the state would get electricity at the rate of Rs 2.50 per unit. The agreement would be valid for 25 years.

Thiruvananthapuram: The LDF government in Kerala today said it could not accept the Centre's 'mega power' policy which insisted on privatisation of distribution of power from thermal power plants of 1000 MW and above to cities with a population of over one million.

State Electricity Minister A K Balan said this at a function organised for signing the power purchase agreement with NTPC for buying 200 MW power from the Simhadri project in Andhra Pradesh.

Under the agreement, the state would get electricity at the rate of Rs 2.50 per unit. The agreement would be valid for 25 years.

Another agreement for getting 122 MW power from the Tuticorin Lignite Corporation would be struck soon, Balan said.

The state was also expecting 266MW from the Koodamkulam nuclear power plant and 38 MW from Kaiga in Karnataka.
