KEC Intl says slowdown not yet impacted power transmission biz

KEC International said that the transmission biz segment in which it is a leading player, both domestically and overseas, has not been impacted as yet by the global economic downturn.

MUMBAI: RPG group company, KEC International, on Sunday said that the transmission business segment in which it is a leading player, both domestically and overseas, has not been impacted as yet by the global economic downturn.

"The economic downturn has not affected us. The power transmission business space in which we are a major player has not been affected as yet," KEC International's Managing Director & CEO, Ramesh Chandak, told.

Out of its present order-book of Rs 4,800-crore, 66 per cent or around Rs 3,200-crore comprises of overseas orders.

The company recently bagged its maiden order worth Rs 80-crore from the central Asian nation of Tajikistan.

"We are very active in Africa, the Middle-East and central Asia," Chandak said.

It has bagged several major orders from South Africa, Namibia, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Libya and central Asian nations such as Kazakhstan and now Tajikistan.

Domestically too, there has been no slowdown in the power transmission space, Chandak said.

"Power Grid is continuing to release orders and so far, no transmission projects have been shelved," he said.

About 18 per cent of the company's orders emanate from Power Grid, he said.
