Kalpakkam reactor to attain criticality by 2010

The Rs 3,800-crore prototype fast breeder test reactor at the Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research will attain criticality by 2010.

KALPAKKAM: The Rs 3,800-crore prototype fast breeder test reactor at the Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research here will attain criticality by 2010, official sources said on Friday.

According to an official, the reactor being built by the Bharatiya Nabhikiya Vidyut Nigam Limited (BHAVINI), will produce 500 MW and will be the second fast breeder reactor to be commissioned in Kalpakkam.

"The construction is on at a good pace and (the reactor) will attain criticality by 2010," the official said on the sidelines of a mock drill on Friday.
