Jharkhand State Electricity Board fresh dues touch Rs 314 crore

Jharkhand State Electricity Board's (JSEB) due to Damodar Valley Corporation's (DVC) has touched Rs 314 crore since July as it has stopped regular payment.

KOLKATA: Jharkhand State Electricity Board's (JSEB) due to Damodar Valley Corporation's (DVC) has touched Rs 314 crore since July as it has stopped regular payment.

DVC supplies power among others to Jharkhand State Electricity Board (JSEB) and in spite of repeated request, DVC is yet to receive regular payment against power bills since July, 2013 amounting to Rs.314.29 crore till date from JSEB.

This due is apart from huge accumulated outstanding dues which is also receivable by DVC from JSEB. Because of heavy amount of current outstanding dues , DVC is not in a position to pay the coal bills to Coal India and this will ultimately hamper coal supply to all major plants of DVC.

"As a consequence, DVC may have to shut down some of the generating units shortly and this is likely to cause wide-spread load shedding/load restriction in DVC command area even during ensuing festival season," the company said in a statement.

DVC is the first multipurpose river valley project of the country, is operating in the states of West Bengal and Jharkhand. Presently, the corporation is operating with 5710 MW of thermal and 147.2 MW of hydel capacity.
