Jhajjar plant's 3rd 500MW unit to start commercial operations

The third 500 MW unit of the Indira Gandhi Super Thermal Power Project (IGSTPP) at Jhajjar in Haryana will start commercial operations this Friday.

NEW DELHI: The third 500 MW unit of the Indira Gandhi Super Thermal Power Project (IGSTPP) at Jhajjar in Haryana will start commercial operations this Friday.

The project is being implemented by Aravali Power Company Pvt Ltd -- a joint venture between NTPC, HPGCL and IPGCL.

With the commissioning of the third 500 MW unit, the 1,500 MW first stage of the coal-based plant would be fully operational, according to NTPC.

Electricity generated from the plant is mostly supplied to Haryana and Delhi.

On Friday, the first stage of the project would be dedicated to the nation by Power Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia.

In the plant, 50 per cent stake is held by NTPC while Haryana Power Generation Company Ltd (HPGCL) and Indraprastha Power Generation Company Ltd (IPGCL) have 25 per cent stake each.

There is also provision for having two 660 MW units under stage II of the project.
