Industry criticises Punjab decision on higher security deposit

The Jalandhar Chamber of Industries and Commerce criticised the Punjab government for its decision to enhance security deposit to two months electricity consumption for industry.

JALANDHAR: The Jalandhar Chamber of Industries and Commerce on Tuesday criticised the Punjab government for its decision to enhance security deposit to two months electricity consumption for industry.

The body warned that industry would not pay these securities and would launch a campaign to demand immediate rollback of the "arbitrary" decision.

Chamber general secretary Charanjeet Singh Maingi said this deposit would put a new burden of crores of rupees on the industrialists of the state.

"Industrialists had already deposited a very big amount of money in the form of security to the state government while setting up of the units. The government, which had promised to pay interest on these securities, still has not paid," he said.
