Indiabulls Power to commission 270 mw by December

Indiabulls Power aims to start commercial operation of a 270 mw unit by December at its upcoming 1,350 mw power project at Amravati in Maharashtra.

MUMBAI: Indiabulls Power aims to start commercial operation of a 270 mw unit by December at its upcoming 1,350 mw power project at Amravati in Maharashtra. The company has no operational capacity as of now, is setting up two power projects totaling 5,400 mw at Amaravati and Nasik in Maharashtra at a total investment of about Rs 27,000 crore.

"We will commission 270 mw at Amravati in December and another unit of 270 mw at Nasik in January, subsequently we will commission a unit of 270 mw every six months," said Gagan Banga, spokesperson of Indiabulls group.

The company is in pact to sell power generated from both projects to Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company, which supplies electricity to almost two crore consumers across all categories all over Maharashtra excluding the island city of Mumbai.

Maharashtra faces a peak power deficit of almost 5%. Banga said that the power purchase agreement with Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company allows the company to pass on the increase or decrease in coal prices to consumers. "This places Indiabulls projects in financially much stronger position in comparison to other power companies which are solely dependent on imported coal or on captive coal blocks which are under a cloud after the CAG report or those who have not sold their power on escalable basis," the company said in a statement.
