India seeks Russia's commitment in energy sector
India has sought Russia's strong commitment for developing the all-round bilateral cooperation with the focus on nuclear and conventional energy and high technology.
The commitment was sought by External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee, who left for home today after a three-day visit here.
However, his earlier scheduled meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov this morning was cancelled due to latter's hectic interaction with the visiting US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Defence Secretary Robert Gates.
Lavrov and Mukherjee have decided to hold a bilateral meeting in Harbin, China, on October 24 on the sidelines of the trilateral India-China-Russia ministerial meet.
Mukherjee yesterday co-chaired the 13th session of the Indo-Russian Inter-governmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technological and Cultural Cooperation (IRIGC) along with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Zhukov.
The two sides have reaffirmed their commitment to translate their special relationship to the economic activities and more than double the bilateral trade from current USD 4 billion to USD 10 billion by year 2010.
