NEW DELHI: Power discom BSES has come across alleged cases of imposters duping customers on some pretext or other by posing as its employees.

The instances came to light recently as two families fell pray to imposters, carrying fake I-cards, who asked them to pay money to settle cases of "tampered" meters, officials said.

The imposters targeted a customer in Paschim Vihar, posing as BSES officials. They went to the house when the male members were not present and asked the women to pay Rs 50,000 to settle the case of tampered meter.

When the male members reached the house, the imposters fled, leaving behind a bag and the fake I-cards. The bag contained a stolen accu-check instrument, fake BSES bills, application forms and enforcement bills, they said.

In another case, two imposters cheated a gullible customer of Rs 39,200. The duo approached the customer and took the money on the pretext of enforcing penalty and fee for a new connection.

In the wake of these cases, BSES has asked consumers to immediately alert the BSES office if they come across anything suspicious, it said.
