HPGCL starts process of slimming power generation bills

HPGCL on Thursday informed of a slew of measures initiated to improve efficiency of its thermal power stations and bring down cost of generation.

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Power Generation Corporation Ltd ( HPGCL) on Thursday informed of a slew of measures initiated to improve efficiency of its thermal power stations and bring down cost of generation.

The announcement comes a day after ET reported that power distribution utilities in the state were turning to non-state players due to the high variable cost.

An HPGCL spokesman said competition had increased after delicensing of power generation under the Electricity Act, 2003. As a result, the corporation’s managing director was looking to bring down the cost of generation at Panipat, Hisar and Yamunanagar. This would ensure that its power gets scheduled by distribution companies.

Based on the operations and maintenance practices being followed at NTPC thermal power stations, an expert operation review team (ORT) has been constituted to analyse performance parameters, cost, heat rate, efficiency and safety at the plants every month.

According to the spokesperson, chief engineers have been instructed to hold daily plant meetings for close monitoring. To minimise forced outages and avoid reoccurrence of faults of a similar nature, performance monitoring groups have been constituted.

An apex committee, comprising managing director, directors, all chief engineers and financial advisors, has also been constituted to meet every month for a review.
