SHIMLA: Himachal Pradesh saw a fall of 35% in power production in comparison to that in the previous years, following continuous fall in temperature, Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board (HPSEB) Member (Operation) D N Bansal said on Monday.

Dip in temperature, particularly at higher altitudes, caused freezing of water and reduced the flow of water required for power production, Mr Bansal added.

Almost all the hydro-electric projects in Himachal, including those of Gumma, Khauli, Gaj, Baner, Bassi, Bhava, Larzi and Girinagar witnessed a 35% loss, Mr Bansal said, adding that the situation in power projects located in snow zone were worst where power production was marginal. HPSEB was drawing power from Delhi, Punjab and Haryana on the basis of power-sharing agreement besides those from Nathpa-Jhakri power project, Bansal said. Additional power was also being drawn from the select club of central public sector undertakings.
