Haryana to lay stress on renewable energy

Haryana Chief Minister says MoUs has been signed to set up 31 renewable energy power projects to generate 697 mw of power.

CHANDIGARH: Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Sunday said memoranda of understanding has been signed with ten independent power producers to set up 31 renewable energy power projects so as to generate 697 mw of power with an investment of Rs 3,300 crore.

The Chief Minister, who was interacting with officers of the state government after laying the foundation stone of "akshay urja bhawan" to be constructed at a cost of Rs 4.50 crore in Panchkula, near here, said the renewable energy power projects are likely be commissioned by mid 2009.

The Renewable Energy Department has implemented a special project to install 1489 solar energy-based street lighting systems in the districts of Ambala, Panchkula and Yamunanagar, Haryana's deputy Chief Minister Chander Mohan said.
