Govt to decommission four units at IP power station

The Delhi Cabinet today approved decommissioning of four coal based units presently in operation at IP thermal power station once 500 MW units at Badarpur power station becomes functional.

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Cabinet today approved decommissioning of four coal based units presently in operation at IP thermal power station once 500 MW units at Badarpur power station becomes functional.

"The Cabinet has also decided to incur only very essential expenditure on the existing units for safe operation till its closure and initiate action for disposal of plants and machinery," Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit told reporters here after the meeting.

The four coal based units at IP station have a combined capacity of 247.5 MW. Dikshit said according to the consultants the units at IP station have outlived their lives after staying over fourty years in operation.

"Any investment and improvement will not be techno- economically feasible," she said. "We would now initiate action for capacity addition by 750 MW gas based power plant at Bamnauli," she added.
