Govt approves Rs 4,909 crore thermal power project

The government on Thursday approved a Rs 4,909.54 crore thermal power project by Neyveli Lignite Corporation, which will add 1000 MW capacity to the southern grid.

NEW DELHI: The government on Thursday approved a Rs 4,909.54 crore thermal power project by Neyveli Lignite Corporation, which will add 1000 MW capacity to the southern grid.

The project would be executed by a joint venture between NLC and Tamil Nadu Electricity Board, it was decided at a meeting of the Cabinet here today.

Information and Broadcasting Minister P R Dasmunsi said: "The power generated from Tuticorin power project units would cater to the demand of the states in the southern region."
