Government to discuss amending Electricity Act
Power Minister Veerappa Moily today said the government would discuss the proposed amendment to the Electricity Act keeping in mind the current scenario.
"We need to develop the Power Sector in a vibrant way," he told reporters on the sidelines of an event organised by NTPC.
On the Power Purchase Agreements, Moily said, "There is a sanctity of signing of the PPAs," Moily said, adding that the need of tweaking or amending the PPAs should be examined on a case-to-case basis.
Power sector regulator CERC has reportedly sought Attorney General's opinion on changes in the Power Purchase Agreement between producers and procurers.
"In order to achieve 9 per cent growth in power sector, we need a strong regulator. There is a sanctity of signing a PPA and that cannot be meddled with that easily....we have to examine the issue case by case," Moily said.
