Gorakhpur nuclear power plant to come up in six years, says minister

Haryana will become the first state in north India to establish a nuclear energy plant as the 1,400 MW capacity plant being built in Gorakhpur for Rs 21,000 crore.

CHANDIGARH: Haryana will become the first state in north India to establish a nuclear energy plant as the 1,400 MW capacity plant being built in Gorakhpur for Rs 21,000 crore will come up within the next six years, minister of state for atomic energy and space Jitendra Singh has said.

Speaking during a session on ‘Investment and Business Opportunities in Sunrise Sectors’ at the Happening Haryana Global Investors Summit-2016 in Gurgaon on Monday, Singh said that with the setting up of this plant, electricity would be provided to consumers at the rate of Rs 6.5 per unit.
