Goa government is setting up a non-polluting power generation plant, which will use solid waste, in the state in cooperation with a Malaysian company.

PANAJI: Goa government is setting up a non-polluting power generation plant, which will use solid waste, in the state in cooperation with a Malaysian company.

"Malaysian firm M/S T J Harmony Worldwide has initiated proposal to generate 130 mw power from solid waste in Goa. The plant will consume entire solid waste and would help state government tackle solid waste management issue," Deputy Chief Minister Wilfred D'souza told media.

"This will be a non-polluting power. The Malaysian company has already set up such plants in Korea, China, Germany and Belgium," D'souza explained.

D'souza, who also holds science, environment and technology portfolio, held meeting with the Malaysian firm on Monday along with Chief Secretary J B Singh and Goa Pollution Control Board Chairman Dr Lakshmikant Joshi.

"The firm is ready to lift and transport solid waste to the plant. The state government has no liability except providing 100 acres of land," D'souza said.

He said that government will purchase power from the plant at a cheap price of Rs 2.34 paise per unit.
