Goa seeks 60 MW additional power from Centre
Goa Chief Minister Pratapsingh Rane has sought 60 MW of additional power from the Centre.
The chief minister, interacting with Union Power Minister Sushilkumar Shinde during launching of Goa State Load Despatch Centre last evening here, disclosed state's plans to have multiple dams across Mandovi river basin and generate hydro-power.
"We need 60 to 64 mw of additional power during peak hours", Rane said adding that the state intended to become self-sufficient in power sector in the days to come.
"National Hydel Power Corporation has already conducted a study on the project which will generate 60 mw powers. But this power will not be sufficient to meet the entire state's demand", Rane said.
He said that Goa was aiming at generating power through coal-base plants but worries about environmental activism. "Opting for naptha or gas-based plant would be an expensive proposition," the Chief Minister added.
State's Power Minister Digamber Kamat too reiterated the demand for additional power during peak hours with the Union Power Minister. "We want to make Goa a model state in power sector," he said adding that the load despatch centre would help the state to get clean and economical power.
