The foundation stone of a nuclear power plant to be set up in a village in Haryana's Fatehabad district will be laid in January next, Congress MP Ashok Tanwar said today.


CHANDIGARH: The foundation stone of a nuclear power plant to be set up in a village in Haryana's Fatehabad district will be laid in January next, Congress MP Ashok Tanwar said today.

The technical survey for the plant to be set up in Gorakhpur village is in progress, he said.

The MP from Sirsa thanked farmers for giving their land for the nuclear power plant which, he said, will not only be safe but also environment-friendly.

This week, a faction of farmers owing allegiance to Kisan Sangharsh Samiti, had called off their 2-year-old stir against setting up of the nuclear power plant.

But another faction of farmers is still agitating againt the project.

Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal had said he was against setting up of a nuclear power plant in his state, saying they would instead bank on thermal power plants.
