NEW DELHI: US headquartered solar power developer First Solar today said that it started commercial operation of its 20 MW solar plant in Telangana.

The 20 MW PV project "is part of a larger 200 MW projects portfolio which is wholly-owned by First Solar and is in various stages of construction in India," the company said in a statement.

The project is contracted under a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) to sell power to the Southern Power Distribution Corporation of Telangana at a tariff of Rs 6.49/kwhr, it added.

"The project will not only increase India's clean energy output, but also support the penetration of solar energy in the generation mix in the country," First Solar India Country Head Sujoy Ghosh said.

First Solar Inc had earlier said it plans to build 45 megawatt capacity of solar power generation in Telangana.
