First private power plant in Bihar by April 2014

The first private sector thermal plant in power-starved Bihar will become operational by April 2014, Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi said today.

PATNA: The first private sector thermal plant in power-starved Bihar will become operational by April 2014, Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi said today.

The first unit of (2X640MW) thermal power plant, situated near Bausa block in Banka district is being constructed by M/S JAS Infrastructure Capital Pvt Ltd.

The power developer had been alloted coal linkage from Jharkhand in 2004 and has invested Rs. 2077 crore out of estimated investment of Rs 14,764 crore, he told reporters.

Modi said he had recently reviewed the project's progress works.

He urged the Centre to consider allocation of 50 per cent power from proposed public sector thermal power plants in Bihar in view of its power crunch.

BJP, to which he belongs, will organize a massive rally at the Gandhi Maidan here to highlight discrimination on power vis-a-vis rejection of special category demand and coal linkage to the power plants in the state, Modi added.
