E&Y debunks reports on UMPP consultant status

Global leader in consulting Ernst & Young today said it had not bid to become consultants for any Ultra Mega Power Project in India other than the four it is already associated with.

NEW DELHI: Global leader in consulting Ernst & Young today said it had not bid to become consultants for any Ultra Mega Power Project in India other than the four it is already associated with.

Ernst & Young was appointed as consultants for Sasan, Mundra, Krishnapatnam and Tilaya UMPPs of 4,000 MW each and never bid for the Cheyyur, Munge and Bedabahal projects.

"... therefore it would be incorrect to say that we have been 'replaced as consultants for 3 UMPPs'," the consultant said, reacting to reports that it was replaced by IIT Roorkee.

It also termed as "factually incorrect" reports that Ernst & Young was disqualified for irregularities in the award of the first UMPP in Sasan in Madhya Pradesh.

The company said it was "duly working on our given mandates and have not received any communication from the government regarding such alleged disqualification."
