EGoM on ultra mega power projects likely to meet tomorrow
The Empowered Group of Ministers on ultra mega power projects (UMPPs), headed by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, is likely to meet tomorrow.
Various issues related to UMPPs such as competitive bidding norms and fuel supplies are expected to be discussed, sources said.
Power Minister Sushilkumar Shinde, Coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal, Law Minister Salman Khursheed and Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia are also part of the EGoM.
UMPPs are generally projects having a generation capacity of 4,000 MW.
The government has so far allotted four UMPP projects. Three of them -- Sasan, Krishnapatnam and Tilaiya -- were awarded to Reliance Power while the project at Mundra was bagged by Tata Power.
