Efforts towards less usage of land and water for power plants

Union minister of state for power Jairam Ramesh on Thursday said the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) is working on norms for less usage of land and water for power ventures.

KOLKATA: Union minister of state for power Jairam Ramesh on Thursday said the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) is working on norms for less usage of land and water for power ventures.

The CEA norms will also pave the way for reduced generation of flyash. Mr Ramesh also felt the present requirement of one acre for every additional megawatt of generation is unacceptable.

According to him, "the land requirement for each incremental megawatt of generation should be maximum 0.5 acre (half acre)."
