EBTC proposes floating solar panel for Meghalaya

SHILLONG: Installation of floating solar panels can contribute to the energy requirement especially in rural areas of power-starved Meghalaya, SumanLahiri, Regional Manager of the European Business and Technology Centre ( EBTC) said today.

The technology, currently in erection and commissioning mode by a French company in Karnataka, could be implemented in water bodies in Meghalaya, Lahiri said here at an interactive session on 'Clean Technologies in Energy and Water Sectors'.

"As the name suggests, the new solar technology does not require land for its installation but static water bodies. The north eastern region needs energy and has an abundance of water bodies," he said.

Poul V Jensen, Director of EBTC, said to continue the growth trajectory of the country it was necessary to ensure that the demand for technology was met with appropriate and customised solutions.
