Distribute electricity equally in the state: SIMA
The Textile Industry in Tamil Nadu has incurred losses of around Rs 1,000 crore and many people have been rendered jobless on account of power shortage.
"The industry has been facing frequent power interruptions/shut downs almost for the last one-and-a-half years," SIMA Chairman Dr K V Srinivasan said.
The situation has worsened in the recent past and the duration of shutdown has increased to four to six hours every day in most of the circles, Srinivasan said.
The industry which provides employment to over 2.5 crore people directly and indirectly in the state is was unable to bear the abnormal losses caused due to power shortage, he said.
To tide over the crisis, the government should equally distribute the power throughout the state, he said.
While appreciating the difficulties faced and efforts made by the government and electricity boards to overcome the shortage, SIMA expressed concern that the situation may only worsen during summer.
