Deshmukh seeks more fuel for Dabhol power project
Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh on Wednesday urged Union Petroleum Minister Murli Deora to ensure supply of adequate fuel for Dabhol power project.
The Chief Minister's appeal, at a function here in presence of Deora, comes amid reports that the project is on the verge of shut down due to scarcity of fuel supply.
The Ratnagiri Gas and Power Pvt Ltd is left with a fuel stock that would run the plant for just one more week. The erstwhile Dabhol power project, taken over by RGPPL was shut down in June 2001 and used the 35-40,000 kilolitre naptha stored with it for generation.
"You (Deora) have helped the state government by allocating fuel for the Uran power plant near Mumbai due to which its power generation has increased", Deshmukh said.
"The Dabhol plant also needs more fuel and I am sure you would do the needful", he said.
Just 52 days after the plant generators whirled into action years after it was shut down, the plant's present fuel stock may last till end of the month, RGPPL sources have said.
"The plant had around 38,000 kilolitre naptha lying with us when the project was shut down. The present stock will last till end of the month," they added.
The 740 MW block II of the project was revived this year using naptha instead of LNG.
