New Delhi: India is moving to unlock granular electricity data for consumers through a new use case under the India Energy Stack, enabling access to information on certification of generation, storage, rooftop solar and battery systems, along with detailed meter-level data.

The framework could allow electricity bills to be issued as digital credentials on DigiLocker or other platforms, Prince Dhawan, executive director at REC Ltd, told ET. REC is the nodal agency for implementing the India Energy Stack.

The latest pilot may provide consumers visibility into their 15-minute block load profiles-data already recorded by meters but largely inaccessible-marking a shift from a consumption-only view to real-time, high-resolution energy tracking. This would allow consumers to use third-party applications to track usage patterns and optimise costs.

"What we have enabled now as India Energy Stack is just like you get a bank transaction statement, a similar concept of meter data statement will be available in DigiLocker or in any other digital platform," Dhawan said.

In February, REC Ltd showcased the first live demonstration of a peer-to-peer energy trading pilot under the India Energy Stack.

Announced in June last year, the India Energy Stack digital public infrastructure aims to tackle key challenges like fragmented systems and support India's push towards a $5 trillion economy and net zero targets.
