Construction at NTPC's Orissa project to start soon

NTPC said construction work at its 1,600-mw power plant at Darlipali in Orissa is likely to commence soon.

NEW DELHI: NTPC on Friday said construction work at its 1,600-mw power plant at Darlipali in Orissa is likely to commence soon with assurance from the state government that the land acquisition shall be completed by December 10, 2012.

NTPC chairman and managing director Arup Roy Choudhury and the company's senior officials met Orissa chief minister Naveen Patnaikon Thursday to discuss issues delaying the commencement of the project, a company statement said.

NTPC is expected to invest Rs 11400 crore in the project. NTPC has two generating projects in the Orissa -- Talcher Thermal ( 460 -mw) and Talcher Kaniha ( 3000 mw).

Situated at the Sundargarh district, Darlipali project will get coal from Dulanga Mine and water from Hirakud Reservoir. The equipment for the plant will be supplied by Bharat Heavy Eleactricals Ltd and BGR - Hitachi. The forest clearance for the Dulanga mine is also expected shortly, the statement said.
