Coal India commissions 100 MW solar power project in Gujarat

New Delhi: State-owned CIL on Tuesday announced the operationalisation of a 100 MW solar power project in Gujarat, marking a milestone in its renewable energy push.

In a filing to the BSE, Coal India Ltd (CIL) said, "it has received the commissioning certificate...from Gujarat Energy Development Agency (GEDA) for 100 MW capacity Solar Power Plant (in) Gujarat w.e.f. 31.03.2026."

CIL, a Maharatna PSU under the coal ministry, has been ramping up its renewable energy portfolio.


Coal India accounts for over 80 per cent of domestic coal production.

Government auditor CAG had in December pulled up Coal India Ltd for delays in development of the targeted 3,000 MW solar power projects, stating that the coal behemoth and its arms had installed only 122.492 MW of solar capacity by December 2024, which is just 4.08 per cent of the target.

The Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) had also asked Coal India to execute the projects on a fast-track basis to become a Net Zero energy company.
