NEW DELHI: CLP India on Wednesday said first 660-mw unit of its 1,320-mw coal-based power project at Jhajjar in Haryana has begun operations.

CLP India managing director Rajiv Mishra said the 660-mw unit began operations in 41 months from signing of power purchase agreement.

Ninety percent of power from this plant has been earmarked for the host state Haryana while the remaining 10% will be supplied to Delhi, a company statement said.

CLP India said it was the first foreign company that won a major power generation project in India through international competitive bidding that took place in March 2008.

The project is financed by a consortium of foreign banks with an overseas debt of $400 million. Total cost of the project is about Rs 6,000 crore.
