CHENNAI: Welcoming the decision of the Tamil Nadu government to impose additional power cuts across the state, industry body CII said the load shedding would "avoid unscheduled power cuts and help the industry in a better way".

The decision to impose "40 per cent power cut to all industrial and commercial consumers, two hours load shedding for Chennai and suburban areas, four hours load shedding for other rural and urban areas, evening peak hour restriction to commercial consumers and power holiday to all industries will avoid unscheduled power cuts and help Industry to plan in a better way," CII said in a statement here.

Observing that the decision would lead to a "fair and equitable distribution of power," assured its support to the Government over it. CII also requested the industry members to "adhere to the power holidays (in order) to ensure successful implementation," of the new plan.
