CERC allows compensation for Tata Power, Adani Power

The electricity regulator has asked five states to pay additional charges to Tata Power and Adani Power as the price of imported coal has gone up.

NEW DELHI: The electricity regulator has asked five states to pay additional charges to Tata Power and Adani Power as the price of imported coal has gone up, but the companies will also have to share part of the profit from coal mining in Indonesia and sale of surplus power to other buyers.

The Central Electricity Regulatory Commission has asked utilities of Gujarat, Maharashtra, Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan to pay Rs 329.45 to Tata Power and Rs 829 crore to Adani Power in 36 monthly instalments for past losses.

They would also have to make up subsequent losses. The move will have a direct bearing on Reliance Power and other firms with plants based on imported coal, as well as consumers.
