Alstom Grid sees Indian transmission sector growth at 8%

Alstom Grid, the transmission business arm of French major Alstom, sees its India operations outperforming global market despite challenges.

MUMBAI: Alstom Grid, the transmission business arm of French major Alstom, sees its India operations outperforming global market despite challenges such as poor health of state electricity boards, low private sector investment and delays in project execution.

The company sees the Indian power transmission sector growing at around 8% as against a muted 3-4% growth abroad.

"Since the acquisition of Areva's transmission business, we have already become the third largest in this segment. For Alstom Grid's business, India is the biggest country in terms of sales. India generated 15% of our global sales," said Gregoire Poux-Guillaume, the global president of Alstom Grid.

"We have plenty of capacity to meet our short- and mid-term needs in India. So we are not looking at any further investment right now. But we are ready with the cheque book as soon as the opportunity comes up," he said.
