Mumbai: Adani Power and Bhutan's state-owned Druk Green Power Corporation (DGPC) on Tuesday signed an agreement to jointly develop the 770 MW Chamkharchhu-I Hydroelectric Project in Bhutan, as part of a broader 5,000 MW hydropower development partnership between the Adani Group and the Bhutan government.

The project will be developed through a 49:51 equity partnership between Adani Power and DGPC under the build, own, operate and transfer (BOOT) model, with a concession period of 30 years from the date of commercial operation.

"While the project is expected to help meet Bhutan's peak winter electricity requirements, it will also enable the export of surplus green power to India during the summer months," said Anil Sardana, MD, Adani Power.

Located on the Chamkarchhu River in Bhutan's Zhemgang district, the peaking run-of-river project is expected to begin construction in the first half of 2027 and be commissioned within six years of groundbreaking.
