Adani Power has received a Letter of Award from MSEDCL for 1,600 MW. This power will come from an upcoming ultra-supercritical thermal project. Supply is expected to begin in FY30-31 under a 25-year agreement. Adani Power is expanding its capacity...

Adani Power has secured a Letter of Award (LoA) from Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) for the supply of 1,600 MW from one of its upcoming ultra-supercritical thermal power projects, Adani Group company said on Sunday.

The award follows a bidding process in which Adani Power emerged as the lowest-tariff bidder, offering power at a combined tariff of Rs 5.30/kWh. The supply under the proposed 25-year Power Supply Agreement (PSA) is expected to commence from the financial year 2030-31.

“With India’s power demand continuing to rise steadily, long-term and reliable capacity addition is critical to ensure energy security,” said S.B. Khyalia, CEO, Adani Power. “This LoA reflects the competitiveness of Adani Power’s cost structure and our commitment to supporting Maharashtra’s and the nation’s growing electricity needs.”

With this, Adani Power has tied up long-term PSAs for 13.3 GW of its 23.8 GW under-implementation pipeline, while more than 95% of its current operating capacity of 18.15 GW is secured under medium-to-long-term agreements. Over 55% of upcoming capacity is already locked under 25-year PSAs, giving the company strong visibility and revenue stability.

The MSEDCL bid includes a pre-determined coal linkage, ensuring fuel security and supporting reliable, cost-effective power supply.

Adani Power is executing India’s largest private-sector thermal power expansion, aiming to increase capacity from 18.15 GW to 41.87 GW by FY31-32, with a total investment of around Rs 2 lakh crore. The projects are expected to generate tens of thousands of jobs and stimulate industrial activity across sectors, aligning with India’s rising electricity demand driven by urbanisation, industrial growth, and increased household electrification.

Slew of multi-state projects

The company has been aggressively building its presence across states, securing a series of long-term supply contracts to meet India’s growing base-load electricity demand. From a composite 6,600 MW order in Maharashtra in September 2024—including 5,000 MW solar and 1,600 MW thermal—to recent awards in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Madhya Pradesh, the company is rapidly locking in capacity under medium- and long-term agreements.

In May 2025, Adani Power won a 1,600 MW Letter of Award (LoA) from the Uttar Pradesh government, followed by a 2,400 MW contract from Bihar in August 2025. In Madhya Pradesh, an initial 800 MW award last month was doubled to 1,600 MW after the state power company exercised the greenshoe option, reflecting strong confidence in the company’s ability to deliver reliable supply.

Executing India’s largest private-sector capital expenditure programme, Adani Power currently operates 18.15 GW across 12 thermal plants and aims to expand total generation capacity to 41.87 GW by 2031-32. These projects are part of a broader strategy to secure long-term power availability and support the country’s rapidly increasing electricity demand driven by industrial growth, urbanisation, and household electrification.
