A Rs 135 crore power generation plant to come up in Pondy
Puducherry Administration has drawn up a plan to set up a co-generation power plant on the premises of the Cooperative Sugar Mill at Lingareddipalayam near here at a cost of Rs 135 crore.
The government had also decided to start a distillery to produce arrack in Bahoor using the molasses produced by the sugar mill, Welfare and Cooperation Minister M.Kandasamy said during a debate on setting up of allied industrial activities in the Assembly today.
Home and Health Minister E.Valsaraj said the Union Health Ministry had issued a directive that privately run medical colleges should earmark fifty percent of the seats in various disciplines in PG courses for students passing out of the colleges in MBBS course and fifty percent of the diploma courses should also be available under the same pattern. The candidates joining under this quota in diploma stream should serve the rural areas.
Valsaraj said there were seven privately run medical colleges in the Union Territory.Four of these private colleges had a total of 130 PG seats.
