COIMBATORE: With the power cuts imposing production loss and additional cost due to self-generation when possible, the industry was pushed into serious difficulty the local chapter of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry claimed on Saturday.

The TNEB,which has imposed a 23 per cent power cut, has asked the industries to declare a weekly holiday from 6 am to 6 pm on specified day--saturday for coimbatore-- and not to draw power from 6 pm to 10 pm every day.

Thus the industries have to close down for 40 hours in a week out of the 168 hours which translated into a 24 per cent power cut, Chamber President D Balasundaram said.

Apart from this, there were several unscheduled power cuts for various durations during the day which was further pushing the industries into difficulty, he said.

Considering this, the board should take concrete steps to enable industries resume normal working hours soon,he said.
