Shale gas: A boon or a bane?

Shale gas is the latest buzzword in the ever-hungry energy sector. Exploration companies believe that this is the beginning of a worldwide revolution that will dramatically alter the outlook for the availability and price of fossil fuels.

India too seems to be getting its act together with the petroleum ministry finalising the shale oil exploration policy which will be taken up by the Cabinet.



But how cost-effective is shale gas exploration? What are the risks associated with it? How strong a player is India?
