RGPPL hopes to start Dabhol's third unit by Feb 2008
Ratnagiri Gas and Power Pvt Ltd hopes to start the third unit of the Dabhol power plant by the middle of February next year, a top company official said.
Two units of the gas-fired power plant are currently generating 1,260 MW and expected to reach full capacity by November 15, RGPPL chairman R K Goel told the media.
Goel, who is also Director (Finance) at state-run gas utility GAIL India Ltd, said the third unit is expected to start generating electricity by mid-February.
The plant would provide electricity to power-starved Maharashtra, which faces a shortage of as much as 4,000-5,000 MW, state energy minister Dileep Walse-Patil said yesterday.
The Dabhol plant would have a total installed generation capacity of 2,150 MW and help bridge the deficit in one of the country's most industrialised states.
Power situation in the state should improve once the third power unit of Dabhol becomes operational next year, Walse-Patil had said in Mumbai.
